CDM's health & safety and wellness programs are based on the principles that people are our greatest asset and injuries and illnesses are preventable. In 2007, the firm's total recordable incident, lost workday incident, and insurance experience modification rates were among the best in our industry. These results stem from a vigorous firmwide health and safety program that emphasizes continual improvement, regular training, and the dedication of all CDM employees to preventing injuries and illnesses. Protecting the health and safety of every employee remains a central part of CDM's vision as employer of choice. Our clients are also increasingly recognizing CDM for our continued achievements in health and safety.
CDM's OSHA injury rates have consistently been better than the national average for our industry. Our interstate experience modification rates for the years 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007 have been 0.64, 0.64, 0.75, 0.79, and 0.69, respectively * . This commitment has been recognized with awards from clients, the National Safety Council, the Association of General Contractors, the State of New Jersey, and the Massachusetts Safety Council.

A leader in health and safety among engineering, construction, and service firms, CDM is a founding member of the Engineering Industry Special Interest Group of the American Industrial Hygiene Association. CDM also supports its health and safety professionals in leadership positions in the Hazardous Waste and Construction Committees of the American Industrial Hygiene Association and New England Water Environment Association Safety Committee, and is an organizational member of the National Safety Council.
Wellness
In 2007, CDM continued its award-winning wellness program after being recognized in 2006 by the New England Employee Benefits Council Benefits Best Practices Award and in 2007 by the Wellness Councils of America Silver Well Workplace Award. Highlights of the 2007 wellness program included availability of free flu shots for all employees, with 18 percent of the CDM workforce (731 employees) receiving the vaccination; quarterly wellness newsletter; fitness and weight loss benefits offered to all employees; implementation of Calories for a Cause exercise initiative that had a 14-percent (541 employees) participation rate; and in-house wellness seminars where 11 percent of our workforce educated themselves on health, getting back in shape, stress management, and nutrition.
