CDM's flexibility in construction services extends to constructability reviews, allowing for a customized approach that matches our clients' specific needs. In the traditional approach, we assign the review of completed plans, specifications, and contract documents to engineers and constructors. A brief workshop consolidates reviewers' findings, which are then tabulated and transmitted to our client. Our alternative constructability review makes greater use of the synergy achieved through workshops and the inclusion of our experienced, in-house contractors on the team. In this approach, our major review effort is provided in a workshop setting where the team reviews the project in collaboration, and a facilitator helps the group focus efforts on those areas that present the greatest opportunity for cost savings or risk reduction.
Similarly, open communication among all parties—including our construction, design, and operations and maintenance experts— represents the key to success in value engineering. CDM has developed a unique "win-win-win" approach, based on an established value engineering methodology known as the VE Job Plan. Of course, our goal is to help both the designer and owner meet their goals of a superior constructed project at reasonable cost. In CDM's value engineering approach, the client wins because its project provides the specified value at the lowest total life-cycle cost, the designer wins through a successful design, and the value engineering reviewer achieves the satisfaction of helping to enhance value and reduce costs for the client.
