For the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD), CDM designed instrumentation and control (I&C) upgrades at the Jones Island and South Shore wastewater treatment plants. CDM designed the supervisory control and data acquisition system upgrades at the two plants, and migrated control from proprietary distributed control systems to non-proprietary, open-architecture, open-protocol PC, programmable logic controller, and network platforms to meet MMSD's long-term goals for enterprise integration and competitive procurement. CDM prepared the final design for the I&C upgrades at the plants, teamed with several other consulting firms, to complete the 3-year, $6.85 million project.
Additional project tasks included developing a strategic information plan for district process information management, conducting evaluations and making recommendations for existing I&C systems, performing a radio path study, and providing procurement support for construction contracts.
