Village Creek High-Rate Clarification Wastewater Treatment Plant

CDM's implementation of high-rate clarification (HRC) at Fort Worth's Village Creek wastewater treatment plant — having received a first-of-its-kind EPA National Pollution Discharge Elimination System permit — is designed to help the city meet increasing treatment capacity demands from wet weather inflows. HRC — a physical-chemical-clarification process — was incorporated as a parallel treatment train within the facility's conventional treatment system. It uses a footprint that is 5 to 15 percent the size of conventional treatment trains. Pilot tests demonstrated that the process removes more than 90 percent of total suspended solids, while peak treatment efficiency is attained within 15 minutes. The design will save the city more than 60 percent of the originally projected compliance cost.

This project won the Grand Award in the water/wastewater category from the American Consulting Engineers Council in 2000.
