Suzhou Creek Rehabilitation Project

CDM helped to implement a US$1 billion project to improve water quality and mitigate flood impacts on Suzhou Creek. This project is critical to improving the health and quality of life for Shanghai's 3 million people and contributing to economic, cultural, and social revitalization through urban renewal. CDM provided expertise in program management, planning and procurement, financial and institutional management, fund management, corporate accounting, and management information systems. Previously, CDM provided technical assistance to help the Asian Development Bank formulate a US$300 million financing package for the project.

The project involved 10 major components, including wastewater collection and treatment plans; integrated low-flow augmentation for flushing and flood control; embankment reconstruction; sediment dredging and disposal; in-stream aeration; installation of locks and gates on heavily polluted tributaries; and development of facilities to collect, process, and reduce solid waste and night soil.
