Case Studies

SUNY Center for Environmental Science and Technology Management

CDM provided lead design services for the expansion of the Center for Environmental Science and Technology Management complex at the State University of New York at Albany. The expansion included:

  • A 120,000-square-foot (sq ft) mixed-use office/educational/ research development building that houses a 15,000-sq-ft ISO Class 3 capable cleanroom.
  • An 8,500-sq-ft support building to house central utility and process equipment to support the cleanroom.
  • Overall site work development, including underground utilities, roadways, parking areas, and landscaping concentrated within the confines of a tight 13-acre area.

The project includes the design of a three-story office building, which houses the entities participating in business incubation and economic development in the areas of micro- and nanoelectronics, micro- and nanosystems, optoelectronics, bioelectronics, and nanosensors for the energy and environmental industries. The building also includes a cleanroom for research and development activities as well as a 250-seat auditorium and several classrooms. Of particular interest is the desire to provide "virtual classroom" capabilities throughout the facility. A 4,000-sq-ft roof-top terrace located on the third level above the tenant suites is designed to accommodate large group functions as well as daily gatherings.
