Case Studies

Operational Enhancement for Energy Savings

In an effort to reduce the energy costs associated with operation of its complex chilled water facilities, an electronics manufacturer in Vermont sought CDM to evaluate the feasibility of using available river water as an indirect source of chilled water. On the basis of the study, CDM suggested modifications in the operating schedule and series operation of the industrial water chillers. This allowed for greatly reduced energy consumption and minimized the operating problems associated with the cold weather operation of cooling towers. Overall cost savings of the modifications, taking capital costs into account, exceeded several hundred thousand dollars per year.
