For decades, residents of Onondaga County, New York, have seen the area around Onondaga Lake as an ideal location for a recreational trail, one that could become a community asset. The county called upon CDM to evaluate potential trail design and construction options, which included analysis of trail corridor alternatives, bridge locations, and cost-saving solutions for construction of a paved pedestrian/bicycle trail.
As part of the future 13-mile recreational loop around the lake, CDM performed preliminary and final design services; environmental investigation; wetlands delineation and mitigation; permitting; and coordination with local stakeholders, including the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Construction of the Onondaga Lake Canalways Trail Section 1 is expected to start during the summer of 2006.
