Creating a Community Gateway Through Transportation Redesign

Nashua, New Hampshire's Main Street serves as the primary connection to the downtown area from Daniel Webster Highway. To help the city establish a gateway to signify the change from a high-speed arterial to a low-speed, urban boulevard with residential housing and small businesses, CDM completed the redesign of 2,500 linear feet of this important community link.

CDM's design included urban and landscape improvements to create a distinct aesthetic appeal for Main Street. A modern roundabout with a cobblestone apron and decorative plantings was an integral facet of creating this appeal. In addition to the roundabout, the design included bicycle lanes, new sidewalks, ornamental traffic signals, flush medians with colored and textured concrete pavers, raised medians with cobblestones, fieldstone walls, utility relocation, drainage improvements, and sewer separation.
