Jordan Water Reuse Program

Building from the pilot project successes of previous reuse activities in Jordan, CDM and its partners are supporting sustainability in the use of treated wastewater as a major resource for agricultural development, urban landscaping, and industrial use in Jordan. This 3-year (2004-2007), USAID-funded, CDM-managed project – a task order under the Architect-Engineering Services in Water Resources, Environmental/Sanitary, Civil, and Industrial Engineering Fields IQC– achieves these goals through reuse activities, institutional capacity building, public awareness, and training.

As part of the project, CDM has:

  • Assumed operations of three agricultural projects in Aqaba, Wadi Mousa, and Irbid, improving agricultural productivity and operational efficiency;
  • Developed partnering relationships with numerous Jordanian industries to design and implement environmental management systems focusing on water conservation, recycling, and reuse; and
  • Performed institutional activities to reinforce key wastewater reuse management institutions.

Other activities include initiation of reuse "knowledge centers" across Jordan, development of project sustainability plans, implementation of industrial reuse and recycling opportunities, and expansion of urban landscaping and agricultural projects.
