CDM managed this 4-year (2001-2005), multi-phase initiative—the first watershed management project in Jordan—to improve stewardship of water resources and protect public health and the environment. Phase 1, a task order under the CDM-managed Architect-Engineering Services in Water Resources, Environmental/ Sanitary, Civil and Industrial Engineering Fields IQC, involved formulating a strategic response to underlying problems in the water sector.
The initiative was a short-term, holistic analysis of the water resources picture to strengthen institutional capacity and inter-agency relationships with the goal of protecting public health. Phase 2 included a pilot project to institutionalize watershed protection in the Jerash Governorate and development of a detailed series of recommended actions, or best management practices. CDM has received accolades from USAID and the Water Authority of Jordan for program excellence, especially for the enormous amount of work completed in a short timeframe, the high quality of the technical work, and development of an effective public awareness and stakeholder involvement process.
