Jordan Schools Construction and Rehabilitation Program

Under a 4-year contract, CDM is providing architectural and engineering consulting services for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Jordan Schools Construction and Rehabilitation Program. CDM is managing the design and construction of up to 28 new schools and the rehabilitation of up to 100 schools throughout the country.

This contract is part of a US$50 million USAID program to support the development of quality learning environments throughout Jordan, and one of four elements in an ambitious reform program initiated by the Jordan Ministry of Education in 2003. CDM is supporting both USAID and the Ministry of Education in transforming local education programs and practices through the development of quality learning environments that will prepare students to thrive in Jordan's growing economy. The new and renovated school facilities will reduce overcrowding in classrooms and decrease the number of rented buildings used as schools, which often lack laboratories, libraries, and play areas.

Preparation for this large-scale project includes selecting the 28 new school sites from approximately 70 candidate sites and completing environmental impact assessments for the selected sites. In addition, CDM is responsible for the planning, design, tendering, award, and construction management of all new schools and the procurement of furniture and other equipment for each facility.
