Investigation of Slavery, Abductions, and Forced Servitude

As part of U.S.-led peace negotiations with the government of Sudan and the Sudanese People's Liberation Movement, a delegation representing the United States, Norway, Britain, Italy, and France, and supported by a technical advisory team, investigated slavery, abductions, and forced servitude in Sudan, recommending immediate practical measures to curtail abuses and formulating longer-term strategies to eliminate them. The CDM-led USAID Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance team provided management, logistics, and administrative support to the delegation in Sudan, where civil war has displaced more than 4 million people and related humanitarian issues are considered the primary challenge to development.
