Case Studies

Increased Safety Through Traffic and Infrastructure Enhancements

Holbrook Square, located at the intersection of Route 37 and 139 in Holbrook, Massachusetts, is a bustling community hub and home to a historic town hall, main fire house, public library, and two public parks. To ensure the safety of drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists, the city called upon CDM to assist in an array of traffic and infrastructure improvements at this intersection.

CDM provided traffic studies, capacity analysis, funding assistance, engineering, design, and construction services to improve traffic capacity, safety, and downtown aesthetics. The comprehensive initiative included the installation of period lighting and ornamental traffic signals to restore the historical appearance of Holbrook Square, drainage improvements, sidewalks, wheelchair ramps, bicycle lanes, stone walls, historical park restoration, closed loop traffic control system, signing, and pavement markings. CDM, through the Public Works Department, formed a public advisory committee comprising town officials, local business owners, and residents that met frequently to discuss the project's status and any concerns-facilitating success through public participation and meetings.
