Gasification and Novel Thermal Processes for Treating MSW

CDM conducted a study for the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, which summarizes seven state-of-the-art technologies involving gasification or other innovative thermal processing technologies for application to municipal solid waste (MSW).

CDM assessed several new or enhanced technologies, including mass burn incinerators, refuse-derived fuel burning, and refuse gasification. Several new or enhanced technologies which thermally process MSW are now well established, including those that burn waste in the same physical form in which it is generated (mass burn incinerators). Emission data for these processes have generally shown very low emission rates of dioxins, acid gases, and other pollutants.
