For the Duke University Occupational and Environmental Safety Office, CDM evaluated 10 environmental compliance programs to verify conformance with applicable regulatory requirements. The results of the evaluation are assisting Duke in developing a continuous improvement process for compliance programs. In addition, Duke subsequently integrated the information collected into its overall environmental management system (EMS) development program.
For the programs addressing the Toxic Substances Control Act, stormwater, and emergency planning and community right-to-know requirements, CDM conducted a detailed regulatory review. For the programs addressing the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, PCB management, and universal waste management, CDM conducted gap analyses. Compliance reviews were conducted for other programs under development, addressing the Clean Air Act, ozone-depleting substance management, spill prevention control and countermeasures (SPCC) planning, and underground storage tank (UST) management.
