The State University of New York at Cobleskill elected to build a new dairy complex to serve as their focal point for future demonstration and teaching. The complex includes a new dairy barn, milking parlor, hospital barn, feed storage area, waste management system, and heifer barn to handle 200 milking cows and 150 heifers. The new complex was designed to meet many needs—including retaining practical agriculture/farming principles, maintaining compliance with environmental regulations, state-of-the-art efficiency, and economic standards.
CDM designed a year-round, state-of-the-art waste management system with solids separation, composting, liquids handling, and storage components. The system separates manure slurry into solids and liquids, and produces a composted solids product. Liquids are recycled and used to flush barn alleys, and are also pumped to a crop irrigation system.
