To support leading-edge biopharmaceutical research and manufacturing operations, CDM designed several laboratory and support facility upgrades. CDM renovated and expanded the development production operations pilot (DPO) lab—where researchers test compounds and cells to facilitate manufacturing process changes—and the associated development support services lab facilities for cell culture, development preparation, and hazardous materials handling. Two cold rooms, one new and one renovated, were also provided for storage and cold refining.
The project expanded the DPO lab, doubled the useful space of the cell culture lab, tripled the cold processing and cold storage space, improved work flow so that media can move seamlessly from one lab into the next process, and provided unprecedented flexibility. Specialized equipment can now be easily maneuvered in or out of the labs and myriad utility connections are readily available. In addition, the facilities feature unobstructed access to the local area network, security system, and fire alarm panel, while new computer line conduits to the cold room allow researchers to monitor tests from outside the cold space. Careful construction sequencing ensured that the active lab facilities remained operational during the renovation.
