CDM designed and constructed Bluff Lake Park, a 123-acre urban wildlife refuge and environmental education facility at the decommissioned Stapleton International Airport. Using a design/construction management-at-risk approach, CDM removed debris, restored the deteriorated water channel and bank segments of Sand Creek, enhanced existing wetlands to improve habitat, preserved and restored a rare stand of short-grass prairie, and constructed boardwalks, trails, and visitor facilities. The resulting park is a public educational facility that provides opportunities for visitors to observe wildlife and plants in a natural habitat. As the first open-space redevelopment project at the Stapleton Airport property, Bluff Lake Park serves as a cornerstone for future urban park development and ecological restoration in the Denver metropolitan area.
