Case Studies

Aquifer Storage and Recovery Aids Sugar Production

CDM evaluated the feasibility of injecting agricultural runoff from a major drainage basin into an aquifer for later recovery and reuse in irrigating crops. The feasibility study showed that the design of an aquifer storage and recovery system could store over 12 million gallons per day using a series of wells. The major benefits included economical storage of large water volumes, effective management of competing supply and demand cycles, and reduction of phosphorus and other nutrients.
