In February 2008, CDM hosted 150 attendees at “Climate Protection and Greenhouse Gas Reduction,” a free workshop on climate change developed for local government leaders. Discussion topics focused on how climate change will affect South Florida and offered tips on how governments can adapt climate change at the local level. Key speakers included CDM sustainability specialists, local municipal leaders, and other industry professionals.
Interest in this topic was prompted by the signing of three executive orders by Florida Govenor Charlie Crist, mandating that the state lower its greenhouse gas emissions and become more energy efficient. This program was developed to help municipalities address the new regulations and learn cost-effective ways to go green.
