Inadequate water supply and sanitation services adversely affect health, economic development, and environmental quality. CDM's approach to improving water and sanitation in communities capitalizes on the multi-sector benefits of water supply and sanitation and provides the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and other donors with a vehicle to address democracy and governance issues and long-term sustainability of service.
CDM's approach is well-grounded in our global experience with water and sanitation infrastructure and the cross-cutting skills and support needed to create an appropriate enabling environment. In addition, CDM develops specific approaches and interventions, such as USAID's Hygiene Improvement Framework, which focuses on improving the health impact of water and sanitation hardware through behavior change and sound hygiene practices. CDM works collaboratively with individual clients and the international donor community, as appropriate, to maximize programs.
