Mining Operations

CDM is an industry leader in the process development, design, and construction of active and passive systems to treat process water and acid rock drainage at mining/milling facilities. In the 1990s, we designed and built one of the first full-scale engineered wetlands for acid mine drainage mitigation. In this and many other innovative passive systems, metals concentrations were reduced to below regulatory requirements, allowing for safe discharge and promoting the restoration of native fish and macroinvertebrates to waters that, in some cases, had not supported life since mining operations began more than a century ago. We have also modeled, designed, constructed, and operated active systems for removal of metals, cyanide, nitrogen, sulfate, dissolved solids, and other chemicals of concern.

CDM's full array of services includes waste stream characterization, bench- and pilot-scale treatability studies, treatment and disposal alternatives analysis, effluent toxicity evaluations, permitting, process and facility design, construction management, training, operations and maintenance, facility optimization/operating cost minimization, contract operations and maintenance, and reuse/recycle strategies. Our staff has assisted numerous mining clients in the construction and implementation of operations and maintenance programs at new facilities and performed rehabilitation and optimization projects in which construction was completed without interrupting existing operations.
