NEPA

The National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) of 1969 changed the manner in which land, energy, water, and mineral managers could develop their resources. NEPA regulations usually specify that, for any project requiring government funding, approval, permitting, or licensing, an environmental assessment (EA), and sometimes an environmental impact statement (EIS), be prepared. The NEPA process—which includes baseline data collection, scoping of issues, EA/EIS preparation, and public hearings—can take many months, often years, to complete. Through our regulatory and technical expertise and the development of site-specific project approaches, CDM expedites the NEPA process, saving clients time and money.

Our experts are specialists in the interpretation and implementation of the NEPA process and have assisted project proponents and agencies in the preparation of hundreds of NEPA checklists, environmental baselines studies, EISs, and EAs. CDM's NEPA process experience includes comprehensive involvement in EIS scoping activities, public hearing assistance, public participation planning and implementation, impact analysis and mitigation strategy development, and document production.
