EPA Sanitary Sewer Overflow Analysis and Planning Toolbox Now Available
September 08, 2009
CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS—The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has released the Sanitary Sewer Overflow Analysis and Planning (SSOAP) Toolbox. This suite of computer tools is used to quantify rainfall-derived infiltration and inflow (RDII) in sanitary sewer systems and facilitate capacity analysis.
EPA and CDM partnered through a cooperative research and development agreement (CRADA) to produce the toolbox. Two related technical reports were also written as a result of the agreement:
- Computer Tools for Sanitary Sewer System Capacity Analysis and Planning
- Review of Sewer Design Criteria and RDII Prediction Methods
The SSOAP Toolbox includes the option of using the EPA Storm Water Management Model Version 5—also co-developed by CDM and EPA—to simulate the operation of a sanitary sewer system.
More information on the toolbox and downloads can be found on the EPA Web site.
