CDM Launches Design-Build Wastewater Treatment Expansion and Reuse Project in Arizona

March 20, 2007

BULLHEAD CITY, ARIZONA—CDM has moved into the final phase of design and construction on Bullhead City's Section 18 wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) expansion, which will help the city meet the needs of a rapidly growing population and pave the way for reclamation and reuse of the highly treated water.

The $17 million design-build project will provide the city with new facilities rated at a treatment capacity of 2 million gallons per day, more than double the capacity of the original facility being replaced. The plant will incorporate the innovative membrane bioreactor treatment approach to produce extremely high quality reclaimed water.

This approach provides high particle removal efficiency, and reduced tank volume and site footprint compared to conventional activated sludge wastewater plants. In addition, the Section 18 WWTP will be highly automated to reduce operation and maintenance requirements.

CDM is delivering this project to Bullhead City using an integrated single-source design-build project delivery method in which CDM is responsible for all aspects of the project, including preliminary studies, detailed design, construction, and start-up assistance. CDM's ability to deliver all aspects of the project from a single unified team has resulted in schedule and cost savings, providing Bullhead City with a state-of-the art facility at a very competitive cost and on an accelerated schedule.

When complete in October 2007, the modernized and expanded Section 18 WWTP will allow the city to retire an aging treatment plant elsewhere in Bullhead City that the city plans to take off line.

CDM is a consulting, engineering, construction, and operations firm delivering exceptional service to public and private clients worldwide.
