CDM Implementing First Step in Major Chicago Public Housing Redevelopment Project
December 07, 2006
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS—The Chicago Housing Authority is in the seventh year of a 15-year, multibillion effort, called the Plan for Transformation. Its mission is to reconstruct or rehabilitate the entire housing stock of 25,000 units, thus changing the face of public housing in the city and the country. One of the sites being rebuilt during this historic effort is Cabrini-Green Extension North, located on Chicago's North Side. At its height, the development provided housing for an estimated 3,600 low-income families.
As part of a crucial first step of this project, the Chicago Housing Authority has selected CDM to guide the removal of environmental impairments from the grounds, ensure compliance with federal and state of Illinois cleanup regulations, and provide environmental oversight during the cleanup in a 12-month contract now under way. Once completed, the buildings will be razed to make way for redevelopment.
"CDM is pleased to partner with the Chicago Housing Authority on this project," commented Robin Black of CDM's Chicago office. "This is an imperative step in Chicago's forward-thinking Plan for Transformation initiative."
