Design-Build Institute of America Honors CDM With Two Project Awards

November 10, 2009

CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS—CDM received two awards from the Design-Build Institute of America at its annual award competition. The St. Bernard Parish pump station rehabilitation received the National Design-Build Award in the Rehabilitation/Renovation/Restoration category. The emergency repair and rehabilitation of a stormwater conveyance system in Clay County, Florida, received the Design-Build Merit Award in the same category.

Hurricane Katrina caused extensive damage to three flood control pump stations in St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana. Through design-build delivery, CDM helped the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers repair and replace the pump stations, which are critical to protecting the community from flooding during a hurricane or tropical storm event. The project team successfully implemented a fast-track schedule to replace the lost pumping capacity—a total of 850,000 gallons per minute.

In Orange Park, Florida, an intense storm caused multiple failures within a stormwater conveyance system, which threatened two adjacent buildings. CDM assisted Clay County by planning, designing, and constructing the emergency repair and cured-in-place pipe rehabilitation of 660 linear feet of stormwater pipe with minimal excavation and disruption of adjacent retail businesses.

National Design-Build Awards recognize projects that demonstrate successful application of design-build principles, including collaboration in the early stages of the project and the acceptance of single-entity risk. Winning projects are honored for their advanced and innovative application of total integrated project delivery and finding unique solutions for project challenges.

CDM is a consulting, engineering, construction, and operations firm delivering exceptional service to public and private clients worldwide.
